About this listen

A pantheon of forgotten gods. An old grudge between a talk show host, an heiress, and the man they shattered along the way. A rapidly deteriorating AI system. An inconvenient tiara upon the head of a friend.

It is bedlam on the eighth floor.

As management reels from the unexpected conclusion of the seventh level, the surviving crawlers stumble onto the eighth and find themselves scattered. It’s a map based on Earth’s final days before the collapse, where ethereal, intangible ghosts of humanity go about their lives, oblivious of the impending doom. Living amongst these ghosts are monsters based in Earth lore. “Legendary” creatures tied to the geographical location they inhabit.

Each team of crawlers is given a task: find and capture six of these beasts. The captured monsters will be turned into cards. Cards that can be summoned into battle again and again. The stronger and deadlier the better.

At the end of the floor, the bad guys will also have decks, and they will have some of the most powerful cards available. So it’s crucial to assemble the toughest squad possible.

But like always, there is a catch. There’s always a catch.

As Carl and Donut know all too well, just because someone is captured, it doesn’t mean they have been tamed.

Her name is Shi Maria. She’s easily the most powerful monster in their area. If they want to survive, they must capture her. But she is no ordinary beast. She’s intelligent. She was once married to a god, a god who is now missing. Her special attack is known to drive one insane. They call her the Bedlam Bride.

“Beware, beware. Beware the eye of the Bedlam Bride.”

Great series, great book!

Last book was okay, but this one definitely kicked it up a notch. The voice actors were awesome, and the story itself was longer, and even a bit better than usual I believe.

I can’t wait for more!

Wow! Just, wow!

Based on how amazing the previous five books were, I had high expectations for this one, and I was not disappointed. I have shed tears, exclaimed in outrage, laughed myself into a coughing fit, gasped in horror, and cheered out loud several times while reading this book. Matt Dinniman’s story and world crafting had me so enthralled, and the cast’s performance had me so engaged that I now have fallen behind on my shows that I usually do a good job keeping up with, and I’ll need to catch up before episodes start expiring. Honestly, this book was so full of crazy on the edge stuff, the thought of how messy the next book is gonna get scares me, but I’m so here for it. My only regret now is that I am finally at the most current book as of this review, so there is no going to the next book for me. I’m afraid of putting too much detail of what I enjoyed about this book for fear of spoiling things, so I’ll just say well done to all involved who made this title such a spectacular listen that kept me spellbound from beginning to end.

He knows how to keep you on the edge...

How do I even..., just awesome. I'm kind of waiting to have my heart broken via book with this one. I really want them to win and have a happy ending. This series is awesome. It is difficult to find better ones out there. This is right on the top shelf with the best of them. The writer is awesome. The narrator is great and dragging in almost all of my favorite narrators for a future revamp is mind blowing... almost enough to get me to re-listen to it all. I don't do that very often... The series is not overly predictable. Punches aren't pulled very often, and you can't easily project what will happen because the writer does not fully telegraph his moves, which I love. Note: If you have clinically diagnosed extreme anxiety, this might not be the series for you.

Best yet

Somehow, it just keeps getting better. Book 6 is my favorite, so far. It's funny, sentimental, action-packed, and just dang good. The narration for this series continues to be a cut above.
