About this listen
ABC’s chief medical correspondent helps you ring in the New Year right with a resolution that’s actually doable: a year-long plan to improve your emotional and physical health - from giving up alcohol to doing a digital detox, but each for only one month.
Dr. Jennifer Ashton is at the top of her field as an ob-gyn and news correspondent. But even at the top there’s still room to improve, and with The Self-Care Solution, she upends her life one month at a time, using her own experiences to help you improve your health and enhance your life.
Dr. Ashton becomes both researcher and subject as she focuses on twelve separate challenges. Beginning with a new area of focus each month, she guides you through the struggles she faces, the benefits she experiences, and the science behind why each month’s challenge - giving up alcohol, doing more push-ups, adopting an earlier bedtime, limiting technology - can lead to better health.
Month by month, Dr. Ashton tackles a different area of wellness with the hope that the lessons she learns and the improved health she experiences will motivate her (and you) to make each change permanent. Throughout, she offers easy-to-comprehend health information about the particular challenge to help you understand its benefits and to stick with it. Whether it’s adding cardio or learning how to meditate, Dr. Ashton makes these daily lifestyle choices and changes feel possible - and shows how beneficial a mindful lifestyle can be.
Inspiring, practical, and informative, The Self-Care Solution teaches you how to recalibrate your life to enjoy a better, healthier year, one month at a time. Featuring guidance from top experts, entertaining case studies, easy-to-follow advice and tips, and Dr. Ashton’s observations and insights, this audiobook can help you achieve a better life balance and a more active and healthy lifestyle.

It's not you; it's your schedule. Does it sound like magic? It's not. We've all heard of circadian rhythms - those biological processes that give us jet lag and make us night owls or early birds. But few of us know just how profoundly these diurnal patterns affect our overall health. Bad habits - like skipping meals, squeezing in workouts, working late into the night and then trying to catch up on sleep during the weekend - disrupt our natural cycles. A growing body of research on chronobiology reveals just how sensitive the human body is to these rhythms all the way down to the genetic level.

We think we know what meditation is - especially in an era when "mindfulness" has improbably rocketed into the mainstream. Millions of people around the world have taken up a formal mindfulness meditation practice as part of their everyday lives. But there's no hard-and-fast rule that says you have to meditate in a certain way, in a particular place, or following a specific tradition. So what is meditation anyway? And why might it be worth trying? Or nurturing further if you already have practice?

Inspiring
I fully enjoyed this book and am inspired to follow Dr Ashton's experience. There is plenty of research showing us why we should make certain changes and adopt new habits, but how do you start? Where do you start? I found that this book answered my questions. You start small. One change for one month. I already started my January challenge, which is different than the author's, but it's meaningful to me. I'm looking forward to forming better habits this year.

Useful Simple Wellness Tips
I loved that the author read her own story. This was a easy book to understand.
She not only explains but uses the simple manageble tips she talks about to show readers what she had tried, and the true to life results. At the very least this was a beautiful story of how someone copes with loss and learns how to move and grow. A personal wellness journey. Showimg what had or hadn't worked for her.

Great book to read and inspire you
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It gives great tips on health, wellness, and happiness.
My one critique is that I wish that the audible book came with a pdf that outlined the ten steps for each of the challenges. It is hard to remember what they were and reference in the audible book without writing them down myself.

KISS-Keep It Simple Sweetie!
The theme that spoke to me the most throughout this book or guide I should say, is don’t over-complicate it. Making simple changes and incorporating healthier choices into your daily life one month at a time IS doable for everyone. Creating better self-care habits is a journey of loving ourselves and I loved how encouraged I felt to take action to inspire my own challenges for better health and wellness. Thank you for this book and its laid back perspective on improving one’s self.
