Publisher's summary

How to Get Unstuck introduces listeners to the ten core principles at the heart of becoming an effective person whose life genuinely flourishes and impacts others positively.

Bad news first: we all get stuck. It's a fact of life. But the good news is that it is possible to get unstuck and overcome the obstacles to doing great work and getting the right things done. The question becomes: How do you get "unstuck" in your productivity in both work and life—and how to do it in a spiritually healthy way?

Matt Perman—author of What's Best Next and director of career development at The King's College, NYC—has spent his career helping people learn how to do work in a gospel-centered and effective way, combining theological substance with practical self-management. In How to Get Unstuck, he will walk you step-by-step through the core principles that free you to be more effective in everything you do by helping you:

  • Understand how you get stuck and what your obstacles are.
  • Prepare to get unstuck by grappling with who you are and how you see yourself.
  • Develop a practice of personal management.
  • Overcome obstacles and adapt to unforeseen problems.

Drawing on the wisdom of the Bible and on the best of today's research, How to Get Unstuck shows believers and non-believers alike how to live productive, integrated lives and develops a poignant portrayal of true effectiveness.

Leading industry performance thoughts on leadership and productivity with a solid value-based foundation

Content is what makes this a must have.

I am new to audible and I often worried if I needed a boom to physically reference. Not required for this excellent read/listening.

This is a must for any leader, PMP, CEO, father/mother, grandparent, volunteer who wants to make a difference.

Heavy heavy leaning on Bible-references and theology

Honestly, I couldn't finish the book. As soon as he said that the next few chapters would be around leaning on God, I was out.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a Christian, but the heavy Bible-centric nature needed to be advertised much more than it was.

Author was Stuck on Saying Unstuck

Not what I expected. The pervasiveness of the word “unstuck” doesn’t translate well in an audiobook. There’s far too much repetition and fluff in this book too, and after spending about an hour on 1.5x I’ve felt there’s been no substance. Moreover, although I’ve drawn on the Bible and biblical stories and preachings for help many times and to study, I didn’t expect that to be at the forefront of this book to get unstuck. Like the book acknowledges at the start, we are busy people and can get stuck, and therefore I want to dive into substantive and related content right away due to my limited time; if I sought bible support to do so, I would have done so as I’ve done many, many times in the past and — further like the book acknowledges — even those biblical figures can get stuck. I had hoped there would be some nice and easily translatable mechanisms presented, but it just wasn’t getting there for me, and the repetition, constant use of the work “unstuck,” and ancillary lessons, pushed me away. This might work for others, but if you’re busy and have limited time, it might be too much to wade through.

Don’t remember God being mentioned in sample

Did not realize this was a bible lesson. I would not have purchased. It’s almost like they hid that fact purposely.

"Unstuck. Unstuck. Unstuck. Unstuck."

I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks over the last five years. Credibility. Boom.

I was excited after discovering this title because I had found a good, solid, wholesome, scientific, and Biblical "how to" guide on getting yourself up, moving, and generating productivity. However, as I was listening, I quickly became annoyed merely by the number of times the word "unstuck" was used in this book. It's ABSURD! It seemed like not a single synonym was used in its place. And soon enough, it became so prevalent, that all I could hear was the word "unstuck." The word "unstuck" is spoken approximately ten times every minute and a half! Truly, within the first hour of the book I had heard the word "unstuck" approximately 400 times! That, my friends, is a lot. After an hour an a half, I finally said out loud to myself, "If this guy says "unstuck" ten more times within the next 30 seconds, I'm returning this book." And lo and behold, the audio book was returned. I was unwilling to listen to that word 2800 (I didn't actually count, but I am tempted...).

Besides this unignorable oversight, the purpose of this book was clear, and the narration performance was "Pretty good", which is three out of five stars. AKA not the best. His voice was annoying to me and he sounded quite insincere.

I could potentially unwrap a few additional issues I discovered, and although I'm almost certain several more issues would have arisen, I, having only listened to the first hour and a half, don't consider myself qualified to judge this title any further.
