About this listen

From Gwyneth Paltrow’s modern lifestyle brand goop comes the Audible Original The goop Pursuit, a four-part audio series taking listeners on an intimate journey of learning and unlearning.

“Leaning into Pleasure”

After her conversation with goop founder and CEO Gwyneth Paltrow, Penda N’diaye speaks with three women of different ages about being “detectives of their own pleasure”. N’diaye, who is the founder of Pro Hoe, a brand that focuses on sexual liberation in Black and Brown communities, explores the different ways we can experience pleasure. And she searches for answers to these questions: Why can satisfying sex be difficult to come by? How do we open up to exploring and expressing our desires? What can we look forward to along the way?

This episode contains mature themes and listener discretion is advised.

I feel that the world is awakened and evolving towards equality

The awareness of self, surroundings, and the world is evolving but that most families have not raised their children to educate them about what are feelings - good or bad and what’s okay and what’s not. Then when go to school in the 4th grade - girls and boys are placed into separate rooms to be shown a movie about boys and girls changes and body parts and told that these “changes “ are normal as we are starting to grow into adolescence and adulthood. That’s all we learned. No information ever again. Church also teaches us to only have sex once you are married and never touch peri area. Sex only to have babies. Now finally our children are adults and had to learn on their own also- from one generation to the next. It is great to open our eyes and use plus enjoy the senses that we’re given to us.

Looking for pleasure

Understand the need to include sex but wish more areas of other pleasure were explored. Sex as pleasure has been presented as a taboo especially for women for many years in the not so distant past. Pleasure can be obtained in so many different forms and while things like dance, art, and even letter writing were briefly mentioned, I wish this segment had focused less on the graphics of sex and more on the pleasures of life.

Some interesting, some too “out there.”

I am as open as many New Yorkers but given that there are just three guests, I found this line up hard to relate to. One heterosexual and older, one trans and one non-binary polyamorous unicorn. Liked some of it but just seems to be trying way too hard to be woke. The host is very good.

Bold and Daring

A bold and daring discussion especially for women of my generation (45+). While shocking on one level, it is also liberating to see young people exploring their sexuality in a way that women of my generation would never have dared!!
A must listen for everyone.

Perspective is key

I really loved hearing my own situation, feelings, thoughts, and experiences be validated. Knowing I’m not alone. Some of the delivery wasn’t relatable, but overall I was so touched listening to how is really is okay to be in touch with yourself.

Eye opening and a relief to not feel alone...

It's very nice to not feel alone in topics that just don't get discussed. While I'm pretty vocal about sex in general, there's certainly things I don't talk about with anyone outside my brain. On to episode 2.

An honest look

This is a honest look at how we view sexuality in the US. I can honestly see why so many people are confused about it. I hpe they do more of these talks.
