About this listen

I often caught myself pushing away the old memories of my past life. More and more, my past self’s hold on me lessened, allowing me to become the person I wanted to be in this world. But at this moment, I found myself wishing to turn back to the old me - to the cold, rational me that had suppressed his emotions in exchange for having no vulnerability that could be used against him.

Arthur Leywin knew well the cold terror of war. Yet, in his past life as King Grey, he had never lost a friend, mentor, or loved one; he had none to lose. Now, though, Arthur must accept that even those closest to him must take up arms to defend their homes as the enemy force seeks new methods to strike at the heart of Dicathen.

In his quest to stop the approaching army, Arthur must travel to the dwarven kingdom of Darv, gain mastery of the four elements, battle some of the Vritra’s mightiest champions, and overcome a grievous betrayal. Meanwhile, visions of his past life are surfacing with startling frequency, forcing Arthur to contend with the decisions of his past as he struggles to retain a vision of his future.

Agree with several other reviews

I do apologize that I'm repeating what others have mentioned. This book was 70% training, 20% flashback, and 10% forward progress.

I'm hoping this is used to build something into the flashbacks. It's nice to have some backstory but we're technically in Book 6 and in my opinion if you were going to explain younger years.... Do it earlier on? Maybe books 1-3?

I have enjoyed the previous books, a lot. However, this is the first book I didn't binge it like I do Netflix.

Only Read if you've listened to the book:
I really enjoyed the fact our main character (MC) doesn't win every battle.

However, if you spend many years with people that'd destroy the world if they fight and who refuse to train "lesser beings" how can you remotely have issues fighting other "lesser beings" after? He seems to get winded very quickly. Wasn't one of the lessons was to conserve? Use little power but get maximum effect? blah, blah, ya know? The montage of him training was cool but he seems to have learned nothing. Often even going against their explicit directions... several times

Anyway, I'm wondering where we're going. I gave it 4 Star ⭐ because it is a good book but isn't good as good as the previous ones.

Slow to progress

Story is very slow to progress. Most of the book felt like a filler episode. Otherwise not a bad listen for daily commute

Mistakes were made...

So... Disclaimer: This series is my favorite ongoing series. But! I really messed up. I just randomly spent a credit on the first publishers pack because I saw that Travis Baldree was narrating. I instantly fell in love with the series.
Here is where the mistake comes in. There is more content out there. I know I could go out there and read more of the story. It's currently available to me and releases regularly.
But I can't even imagine experiencing this story without Travis Baldree doing the narration. So now I'm hooked on the audio versions and I just have to patiently wait for the next audio book to come out.
So please please keep that audio content rolling out as quickly as possible.
Thanks for the great story and the great narration!

Previous Reviews Were Misleading!

DON'T LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS!!

I was hesitant about getting this book because of the many reviews that said this book sucked. the quality went down, it's mostly training, Arthur forget everything from the previous books, etc. etc. LIES!!

Look, I started reading at book 5, before that I read the manwah's. I don't know how the previous events read in the book compared to the webtoon, so claims of the book dropping in quality I can't refute. what I can say is that this book is a great addition to the series

It utilized everything Arthur learned in the previous book and had him apply it in real combat. The 2 major fights were good, showing both what Arthur can do without restraint and how much he has to grow. The flashbacks, though annoying, seem to be building up to something that answers a big question. The characters continue to grow, the politics get more complicated, and though there is a training segment, it highlights a weakness Arthur has that separates him from achieving true mastery. And the last chapter makes this all the reason more to get the next book.

In Summary: DON'T LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS AND GET THE BOOK FOR YOURSELF! IT IS WORTH THE CREDIT

Mind blown again!

Wow! I can't believe the book ended like that, what an amazing story! if book 7 isn't out yet it needs to be!
don't mind me fan boying, this is one of those series that they either need to turn into an anime or a movie series (with a large budget) because wow
