Nothing lives forever. Not even the Gods...

A clock hangs over the head of every mortal. Counting down to the inescapable day that the Goddess of Death claims them. That is the way of the world. The natural cycle of mortals.

The Gods, however, were said to live for forever. To exist so far outside of the natural laws of the universe that even their crimes can't be punished. But Knell Coba, at great cost, realizes this is nothing but another lie.

The Gods can be tricked. They can be defeated. They can die.

To most, seeking the head of the Goddess would be the actions of a madman. But Knell knows that nothing exists forever. Together with his loyal crew, he can use his cunning and grow strong enough to get his revenge... no matter the cost...

Don't miss the next action-packed LitRPG Series from Actus, bestselling author of Blackmist and Cleaver's Edge, about a tactician with access to a System, his crew, and his quest for mortal revenge.

What a fun book as we dash headlong into book1...

Getting this book was a no-brainer since I enjoy Atcus and although I worried about missing Peter Berkrot's narration, it turned out that Jeremy Frazier was equally good and smoothly grabbed the baton without stumbling.
The MC Knell Coba learned the hard way that he could not trust the gods. And yes in this reality they do exist, albeit outside the natural laws of the mortal realm. Believing that they're invincible and safe from any punishment humans could impose. So yeah, ignore a believers plea for help. No problem... Kill a believer... what could happen? Absolutely nothing.
Well Knell Coba knows better than that, his father said so. And Knell on the faith of his father makes a one, or maybe two man army planning to get stronger inorder to survive his recokning. Along the way they pick up a couple more adventures ready dash headlong into the adventure to see that Knell's plans come to fruition. Here be pirates too...

The MC is filled to the max with unfounded bravado

The main character has the kind of arrogance that only major plot armor could carry through an entire book. Skipping past the overall completely uninspired dialogue; The book is filled with cringe comments that seem to only serve as the author's way of demonstrating just how cool and awesome their character is. That alone wouldn't be so bad but the amount of contradictory statements the MC makes in order to make us believe this drags on. The constant flaunting of I got secrets and this is why you're wrong between character interactions makes the MC into a massive Edge Lord. I honestly don't know why the Author would write a character like this; Was it just lazy writing or a deep need to finally live out all their angsty teenage desires via proxy of writer and listener? With that being said it's hard to properly judge the performance when the writing is this bad. If I ignore the bits of bad dialogue I can reasonably say the performance was decent. Hopefully, The narrator doesn't take the negative reviews too harshly. A turd is a turd no matter how much perfume you put on it. As for the author all I have to say is do better in the future. I'm severely disappointed with this book. I've read some of your other books and they're not nearly as bad. Good luck in your future endeavors.

You’ve got my attention, but…

I’m not going to lie, the voice of Styx is specifically grating. And am I mistaken or did Maya clench her “fists” in Styx’s bedroom even though she only has one hand? I tried to follow up on the MC’s stat sheet on RR, but I think it’s missing the Advent of Eternity bit. The shards, boons, and other items are very vaguely defined, but I think the story has good potential and will listen to future installments most likely.

Actus does it again

when i saw Actus was coming out with another series I knew I had to get it. once again actus creates an unique universe that had my attention to the point I couldn't stop until it was over. Can't wait until book 2 comes out.

Ok story w poor female narration

The book seems to be missing details or maybe it was explained poorly and I missed it. The stats were difficult to follow and character types not fully explained. There are good moments that I enjoyed, but without strong character development, it was difficult to care. I will probably give the next book a try to see where it does as it ended abruptly.

Pretty freaking great

I've been on a real stinker run of audiobooks lately, so much so that I'd become disheartened with listening to them in general. My usage of Audible has dropped markedly over the past few months to show that.

It feels like, lately, I'm just throwing darts blindly at a board and hoping whatever I land on just doesn't make me angry enough to want to return it.

That's why this was such a breath of fresh air - doubly so because I couldn't even finish one of Actus' other books (I blame YA).

I'm a simple man. Give me a smart, competent, powerful protagonist and don't make them make decisions that made no sense and have me pulling my few remaining hairs out of my head. That's really all I ask for. I really like the ensemble cast too - they're charming and all have fun chemistry.

Normally I hate stories with Gods. The scope becomes too large whenever they're involved and I normally prefer more constrained stories, and while the scope of this story is indeed large, Actus has made the Gods feel less... godly. The protagonist has a lofty goal (to kill all the Gods), and I don't really feel like this is an impossible task so far into the future that I'll never see it.

Just enjoyable all-round.

I dinged a point from the narration though because I don't think Frazier does an amazing job with some of the female characters, but that's a nitpick tbf.

Shattered System what system???

So I almost never leave bad reviews.
And not every 4 or 5 star is rated equal to other 4s and 5 books. For example i might rate something that i found to be very entertaining 4 - 5 star but ofcourse they might not even be something we could comfortably rate next to our top three books ever. Forgetting that there probly different genres but the best books also demands the best attention. Point is my ratings on audible are always generally laxed. That said…

I rate this a 2.4 star and if you take everything from beginning to the end of the book I’ll grant that it barely meets the bottom of the barrel requirements to even be called a litrpg. (I dont recommend this to anyone especially to those feasting upon litrpg). And I am sorry to be harsh to the author. I myself am intrigued to write even been told I’ve got talent. That said In know at the moment anything I created would be worse then this if readable at all atleast at first. That said I’ll say to the author. You had a fine enough story thought of and even touched on if briefly what can be conciderd lit rpg. Mostly at the end though. Look I’m not trying to troll you but god damnit I’m really pissed I waisted my ten dollar reward plus 8$ on this. I’d say it was written for ya but that just insulting to that age group. I’d believe it was written by someone that young. Hell I almost could have endured immaturity of it all regardless of it being an element throughout the book not just one character or two. If there was actually a god damn system or any type of power progression that added some entertainment. Technically there is if you add up everything in the whole book most at the end and even then it’s still found wanting ( sorry just really upsetting when you got this shit labeled as a litrpg and the word system in the damn title.
Where was I.. 2nd thing if there was any thing that qualified as tactical or remotely smart. Just cause you say a character is smart and a tactician doesn’t actually make it true. To all the readers out there I know you’re not sheeple so I know you won’t believe something by just being told to especially when the evidence is face value. Unfortunately you can’t make your own opinion without getting this book. So I’d imagine the most that I can offer further at this point is to share that though there are many books I like in many genres the majority I have in audible are fantasy based and most my reviews are litrpg not all but enough to take any doubts I have interest listening to litrpg. So try doing what I do with other reviews I click on the name above the few reviews of a book I’m on the fence with and do a quick scroll through to see if we share the same interest in litrpg and specific titles. Usually that helps with decisions on some books and if lucky even find other good ones I didn’t know of. I have many I still havnt left a review and for this reason I might go back and leave really short if only the rating for the purpose of it being listed for more good books to share with my comrades. Sorry so long hopefully that helps make up your mind. With this book and perhaps many others. Thanks
Ps. You do have to be on the web site or mobile site for audible to have access clicking on a person and to see their listed posts. Obviously it isn’t available through the app just fyi cheers
