About this listen

The key to success in life and business is to become a master at Conversational Intelligence. It's not about how smart you are, but how open you are to learn new and effective powerful conversational rituals that prime the brain for trust, partnership, and mutual success. Conversational Intelligence translates the wealth of new insights coming out of neuroscience from across the globe, and brings the science down to earth so people can understand and apply it in their everyday lives. Author Judith Glaser presents a framework for knowing what kind of conversations trigger the lower, more primitive brain; and what activates higher-level intelligences such as trust, integrity, empathy, and good judgment. Conversational Intelligence makes complex scientific material simple to understand and apply through a wealth of easy to use tools, examples, conversational rituals, and practices for all levels of an organization.

Critic reviews

"Glaser's idea of C-IQ provides an excellent guide to improving effectiveness both on the job and outside the office and should stimulate "thinking different" among practitioners, faculty, and students of business. High recommended." ( Library Journal)

I enjoyed the listen and a few of the messages made an impact on me but overall, I just didn't get much from this book. With that being said, I do think for folks who struggle with communication or feel that their messaging is never received quite as he/she intended this would be an excellent read and valuable insight would be gained.
I read this as it was a book referenced at a leadership summit I attended not so much because I felt my communication skills were lacking so for me, the return on investment was minimal.

It was OK for me, but I can see the value!

I bought the audible first, but due to the multiple illustrations I thought it good to also get the hard copy. Towards the end of the book I listened with the book open and noticed a number of instances where the audio and text were not consistent. The epilogue was significantly shorter as well. I don’t think the differences are not too significant, but worth noting when deciding between hard copy and audible.

Great insights, but noticeable differences

Interesting connections between conversations and science. Some of the concepts presented are repackaged skills that have been around quite a while. I do want to dig deeper into understanding the science the author cited.

I did not care for the author's overuse of "I", as in I did this, I named this tool, etc. As I mentioned, the conversational tools Ms. Glaser references have been around a long time, and little credit is given to those whose shoulders she stands on.

If you are new to studying conversational skills, then this book will be helpful.

Interesting links to science and conversation skills

The contents of the book are well researched. However, it is more beneficial to purchase or borrow the book than listening to the narrated version of this book. I had to stop listening. I give story a 3 as this is a self help book and not a fictional book.

I really wanted to get through this book as I find the info fascinating. I had to stop it at minute 12 as I could not take the oddly robotic, monotone voice of the narrator. Will be returning, sadly.

Great info; Headache of narration

This book gives you great tips on how to be a great leader in conversations. I feel like I can apply this to my personal and professional life. I wish someone had told me about this book sooner!

What didn’t you like about Karen Saltus’s performance?

I'm sorry Karen, but this recording sounds like it was produced by a computer. I couldn't last even 5 minutes before I had to shut it off. I decided to read the book instead. Just a dreadful experience listening to this recording of otherwise great content.

Great content...but it's read by a computer.
