Publisher's summary

Dumpster diving for profit. Creatures most fowl. Blazes of glory.

Sam King is enjoying being a Bibliomancer, especially as his powers grow and new doors begin to open for him. Between slapping down people hunting him and the Wolfmen that he works with, he’s even starting to get fringe benefits that even his handler is surprised by.

Not everything is sunshine and unicorns. Tasked with advancing his class as well as forming a new den for his team–his pack–the Bibliomancer starts to learn what the costs really are for blazing his own trail. Yet, with every cost comes opportunity, and if he makes the right call, his time in this world will be way more fun than he ever imagined.

Sam didn’t choose the path of a Wolfman Warlock out of a sense of duty, but as a way to choose his own path in Eternium. He never expected to love it.

fun addition

Sam and Bill are really fun characters and this adds some fun world building to the completionist chronicles!

Boring with a few highlights

I understand having to work within an already defined story, but those milestones should not define these books. Nothing I have learned about these characters is really great or makes me think they have a chance to succeed as a wolfpack.

*spoilers* There is a comment about him choosing crowd control since he is on a team but the only thing they accomplish is getting a place to live. I feel like I am just waiting around for them to run back into the actual main characters instead of them being their own main characters. also, narrator is so so, just getting a paycheck.

So Punny!

This series has me laughing so much I love the puns and book jokes. The MC has a good balance in his abilities and I am excited to see where it goes.

Loving this series

This series is great, the stat crunching could be minimized a bit but it’s not bad. It intertwines well with the other series and they did a very good job at keeping me interested. Full of action and, as always, hilarious.

Loved it!

It’s really nice to see this world from the side of the Wolfman and Sam wait to see what’s in store for them nest, and how it integrates with the larger stories

going in the right direction

this reminded me of the older titles. I enjoyed it. I really like the way this adventure is turning out. knowing what I know about future events it's fun to hear about it from another angle. I hope sam's adventure continues to be a unique experience and not just a simple adversarial role for the other books protagonist because this is a fun way to further explorer the games lore, culture and mechanics.

I want to like this more...

First off, Nick Podehl always gets 5 stars.

The original set-up for Sam King, at least as I interpreted things, was that he was going to be some sort of rival to Joe in the Completionist Chronicles. Of course, the latter is now on Book 10 and while Sam King's character is alluded to a few times in the early books, for obvious reasons, he is quickly never seen again. So the rivalry thing turned out to be a bust.

While this series is fine on its own, I can't help but feel as though the greater story of this world/mythos has left this series behind. Basically, it feels as though Joe has done all the big important stuff for the world, and who cares about these plebs who got left behind.

That said, the stakes in these stories don't have to be ever increasing. It would be fine, and I think a huge positive for the series, if they forgot about playing in Joe's shadow and focused the story on some "smaller" stakes. For example, now that the wolfmen are a shattered race, is it possible to become unshattered as a race? Give Sam something to do other than languish in Joe's shadow and this series will pique my interest again. Otherwise, I can't help but feel like I'm reading an inferior version of a story I've already read.
