About this listen

They thought the Enemy was the worst of their foes. They were wrong.

It was supposed to end with the saving of Fallen Reach, but that was only the beginning. In an apocalyptic battle, a nightmarish monster nearly took everything from one of Hiral's closest friends, and only a great sacrifice saved her life and soul.

As the party reels from the near-loss, one thing becomes clear: they must learn more. Ancient secrets have revealed that the truth they thought they knew was twisted, and they can only save their reality by uncovering the rest of what was hidden.

The Enemy works against them. The Fallen work against them.

But are they the only factions they must worry about, or do dangers lie closer?

The truth might be hidden in the Progenitors’ secrets, and those revelations could shatter everything that Hiral knows about his world.

… and about himself.

Good as always, nice next steps and lots of Easter eggs. I love the reference to the Death Star.

My favorite part about this book was when they entered the mark of the Fool

Good book

Over all I liked the direction of this story, the development it gave to the questions around the Enemy, the Fallen, and the Progenitors.

My hang ups are threefold.

1. The long conversations when they are supposedly in a rush. Like see

Long battles, interesting developments, long conversations

Character development

Oh my word finally getting the whole story with his mother and was left completely nonplused and kind of disgusted with both of them. I still love the powers and other relationships he has with the other characters. If this story is going to be top tier there has to be some reconciliation. Please don’t fall into the trope of the mother trying to make it up to her son by sacrificing herself cause that’s boring and we will see it from a mile away. Otherwise great story unique premise but please don’t make him act like a little boy with his mommy.

Love this story but….

I loved that Chancellor Balan has an appearance. This series just keeps getting funnier and more exciting as it goes. Some of the references and homage are really filling my heart with joy. Keep it up guys!

The tie-ins

Not going to lie, with the way the fourth book headed i was worried the story was going to go in a boring direction with nothing but hidden plots governing the stories direction. I was pleased to be wrong and it still follows the overall direction of them just trying to get stronger while figuring out what to do about the enemy. Also I personally enjoyed the many MOTF references.

Better than expected

“I tried to tell you” the author is a liar and just likes to tease questions and never answer anything. I am not amused.

Just answer the question

The narration is great as usual with Ralph Lister, the story itself picks up almost immediately after the end of book 4 and throughout the book there are parts that don’t really serve much of a purpose and make it feel like the story is kind of spinning its wheels. If I were going to listen to this series again I would probably x2 speed a few chapters in this book. That being said the story itself was really good and had a lot of interesting and emotional moments with the characters as well as the great actions scenes.

Stunning narration, story drags a little
