About this listen

Someone who didn’t know Pavel might mistake his heroic bravery for a death wish, and there’s no better place for either than the world’s first fully immersive game.

Sure enough, the competitors are intimidating, and the monsters terrifying - though neither more so than blossoming friendships with two determined swordswomen.

Spurred by pure-hearted altruism alone, Pavel joins their quest to find the Storm’s Breath: an artifact that bestows magic powers - and real-world riches - upon the first player to find it. And with a ruthless mage on their heels, he’ll find plenty of opportunities for bravery.

Love the concept and thought the execution was exceptional. Can’t wait to follow the author in his career... highly recommend you give it a read.

a masterpiece

Given how short this book is, it takes a long time to get into it and fully appreciate what kind of world/game/system the characters are playing in. That said, I love how the author's pacing, prose, combat and character interactions. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the MC's powers and relationships develop.

A slow burn YA litrpg

The characters have flaws that one hopes would resolve in future books. Similar to demon slayer characters, they're somewhat unlikeable at first, but you can see their growth. World building, conflict + resolution, action, and introspection are done well and honestly. Characters decision making can be frustrating, but one can't help but be invested. The romance wasn't a highlight for me but it added to the story more than it took away (maybe targeted for high schoolers). It has the depth one would expect from a book of this length. I'm looking forward to the next 2 books.

I want to read the rest!
