About this listen

Part of the bestselling Surrounded by Idiots series, read by David John!

Internationally bestselling author Thomas Erikson shares the secrets of dealing with everyday narcissists.

Are the narcissists in your life making you miserable? Are you worn out by their constant demands for attention, their absolute conviction they are right (even when they’re clearly not), their determination to do whatever they want (regardless of the impact), and their baffling need to control everyone and everything around them?

In this thought-provoking, sanity-saving audiobook, Thomas Erikson helps you understand what makes narcissists tick and, crucially, how to handle them without wearing yourself out in the process. With the help of the simple four-color behavioral model made famous in Surrounded by Idiots, Erikson provides all the tools you need to manage not just the narcissists around you but everyday narcissistic behaviors as well–something that is becoming more widespread in the age of social media.

Engaging and practical, Surrounded by Narcissists will help you free yourself from the thrall of others' toxic agendas so you can pursue a happier, more fulfilling and successful life.

Dear Listener,

What is the message I want listeners to walk away with?
"Some people can’t help it—they just have to put themselves in the center of everything, and sometimes it will affect you the wrong way. Don’t be naïve. Instead, be cautious around people that go too far to achieve attention. Accept that a shiny facade is not necessarily all there is to know about a person. Fortunately, there are ways to deal with them." – Thomas Erickson, writer of Surrounded by Narcissists

Extreme

Was intrigued by the title and application to DISC profiles, but it was hard to relate to most of the content.

Now required reading for my children!

Better than my psyche training to work in the field. Should be required reading for our kids.

you can learn not only identify behaviors but also how to deal with it and perhaps change such behaviors.

this was very helpful in making me more self aware and I especially liked how we are encouraged to help others to be aware of how bad behavior affects others. but if that fails we can then walk away with confidence and dignity.

Cautionary tale!

I really enjoyed the book. Such a great reminder about current society and how unhealthy some of the new movements are. The narcissism is rampant and it’s our job as the members of society to support each and to raise our kids to be/do better.

Surrounded by Mean-Looking Toyotas

Was hoping for a meal, got an airhorn blast that smelled vaguely like an IKEA cafeteria. Not a lot of depth here, and not especially insightful. I am not even sure whoever the hell this author is lives on the same planet as most of us. I would save your money for a better book.

Yet another liberal whiner...

Shame. Rest of the book was pretty good right up to the point where he started sharing his political opinion... Objectivity is a lost art...
