Best book ever on learning assertiveness.

I have bought so many books on how to stand up for your rights and I was quite shocked that for the price of only $4 this book was the first one that is actually helping. I have both the kindle copy and the audio copy and love them both. I'm one of those people who start off by trying to help and then get stuck with that behavior with certain selfish people and family members who will take advantage of you. i get in a situations and not then not know how to get out. With the help of this book i am starting to crawl out. Hopefully in the future I will learn how not to get into those situations is to begin with.

Hmmm lacking a lil something

I suppose this book has a few good pointers but nothing surprisingly grabbed my attention like I expected. Not sure if it was due to the lack of any ground breaking advice or if it suffered due to the lack luster delivery by the narrator. Glad I used a credit and not actual $$ to buy this book. I will be requesting my credit back though!

what?

Would you try another book from Patrick King and/or Joe Hempel?

This is the worst advice anyone can give on assertiveness, it will do more harm in your interactions than good!

Too specific

It gives you specific instructions, it talks to a determined group of people with certain characteristics. It may good for them but not really an "art". It isn't a good guide for "everyday" scenarios.

Sounded like a lecture

It was so monotone and repetitive with examples that don’t apply to everyone, at times it felt like a lecture I couldn’t even finish it was so bored of hearing examples

standard eighties self help baloney

the narrator was monotone and dry, no excitement or enthusiasm in his voice, but what was worse was the actual content. Patrick King is in no way an authority on this topic, his advice seemed like he took what sounded good from other books and presented them here without significant change or improvement. they sound good in theory, but they don't have much value in practice. don't waste your money or time.

Too Macho

What disappointed you about The Art of Everyday Assertiveness: Speak Up. Say No. Set Boundaries. Take Back Control.?

From reading this book, Patrick King came off a bit chauvinistic...maybe his last name has gone to his head - King. As a woman, couldn't get into his book. I think it's geared more for men. I have to say, if a man did some of the things he suggests, I would slap him. If you are a woman, I recommend The Assertiveness Guide for Woman by Julie de Azevedo Hanks
