About this listen
In a world of secrets, he who holds the answers holds the power.
Nathan Cheng, known professionally as Nil, is anything but ordinary. With his fourth consecutive game jam win in the bag, he has a lot of big ideas for his own game studio, though he lacks the resources to make them real. Even if he did, the gaping hole in his heart from the untimely death of his sister last year has left him angry and bitter. If only he could have been there.
When he wakes up in an arcane world with a system he knows very well, he’s given an ultimatum: defeat the dark king...or die. If he can succeed, he can return home on the day before his sister was murdered. The catch is, like every light warrior, he must begin at level one.
Nil must use his knowledge of the system to empower himself before he's overwhelmed by the armies of the dark. It's a good thing he has a perfect memory.
The System of Nil is a deep litRPG series where the game system is far more complex than it appears, with thousands of hidden secrets and mechanics. Every powerful weapon, item, and skill is gated behind tricks, traps, and unimaginable horrors. To prevail, Nil must be a skilled warrior, investigator, crafter, and monster hunter. It’ll take more than just brains. He’ll need a mountain of grit and guts. But that’s just fine. He wouldn’t have it any other way.

Yet, Nathan can't shake off the feeling that darker truths lurk beneath such promises. The world of Davrar is a dangerous place teeming with dungeons and monsters–ruled by levels, Talents, and a near-infinite progression of power. Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Story
Dhane kicked the bucket in spectacular fashion, every bone crushed, every organ popped against the full force of a 40-ton garbage truck speeding through a red light. The only part of him intact—whole—entirely unaffected by the grisly affair was his soul. Souls are durable things, you see, like kids: they bounce. And bounce he did, into the abyss between worlds, drifting until one excited soul watcher fished him out and found him a new home, a heaven for gamers and nerds and everything in between.

Story
Orodan was an orphaned street rat who clawed his way to the county militia with hard work. When calamitous events unfold and draw him into events bigger than himself, Orodan's battle-loving disposition leads to a warrior's death. Then he wakes up again at the start of the Cataclysm. Then again. And again. In a world of skills, titles, and blessings, a smart time-looper would perhaps scheme, plan, amass equipment, and allies. But not Orodan. If there's one thing he's good at, it's stubbornly trying the same thing over and over again via brute force till it's done.

Story
In just seven days, the world will crumble. The System's Descent will usher in a new era of chaos: wild animals mutating, monstrous creatures emerging, and the cessation of modern technology. Humanity will be left defenseless. Drew Wright knows none of this. At least not until he is rudely ripped from his bed and thrust into a white room to undergo a taser-happy ‘Tutorial’. Turns out, he is one of a thousand randomly selected people to be forewarned of the approaching apocalypse. Now, he faces the delightful task of convincing his wife and mother of the devastation hurtling towards them.

I really enjoyed the premise and storyline of this book. The author really knows how to write really compelling action stories that just keep you wanting more and more. The narration is okay, but for an author who narrates there own books. I'd say it's better than I would've thought. Baneslayer by Tim Paulson is a tale of fantasy and adventure following the MC Nil. He is a beast when it comes to fighting and I couldn't have it any other way.
The characters in this story are compelling with most characters adding much needed depth and unique personalities to the story. I feel like the female side of characters is a little skewed. When you read this story, you might realize what I'm talking about.
This story is captivating in its own right and it is perfect for newcomers or veterans of this genre. This story does follow some troupes of the Litrpg genre, but Tim makes the book amazing with twists and turns in the story at every little corner.
