About this listen

Power is returning to the world after millennia, ancient constructs are stirring back to life, and one man is doing his best to ignore all that noise.

Fischer has everything he needs in life: blossoming friendships, a menagerie of cute animal companions, a waterfront property with easy access to fishing, and enough coffee to take out a small elephant or a really big dog.

Unfortunately, Fischer can’t catch a break. Cosmic forces? Still throwing curveballs. The bigwigs in the capital? Starting to sniff around his business. Cults? Still culting. Plus, awakened beings are washing up on his shores like flotsam after a storm. And worst of all? His coffee guy ghosted him!

It’s a lot for one heretical fisherman to handle. Thankfully, Fischer isn’t alone. Between his trusty guard crab, a mischievous otter who can wreathe herself in lightning, and an adorable bunny eager to solve every problem with a roundhouse kick, he’ll be just fine . . . probably.

The second volume of the laugh-out-loud LitRPG adventure series—a #1 Rising Star on Royal Road with more than three million views—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Critic reviews

“I can’t think of a single story I’d rather get truck-kun’d (truck-kunned?) into than [that of] the vivid, lush world portrayed in Heretical Fishing, especially if I can hang out with Fischer and his gang. . . . The best book I’ve read this year.” —Matt Dinniman, author of Dungeon Crawler Carl

Jobson Does It Again!

This is the second book in the series, and it is even better than the first! Cozy fantasy at its finest. If you enjoyed the first book, you're going to love this as it's just the natural progression of the story. If you enjoy a charming protagonist, fun and quirky side characters, and cheeky animal pals then this book has everything! Combine that with the rich tones of Heath Miller's voice and his ability to make each character feel unique and alive and what more could you ask? I am looking forward to the next installment!

Basically its Jason Asano

... if nothing ever bad happened and he was really into fishing.

Which could be a good or a bad thing depending on how much you like that MC's personality because they basically have the same exact humor, quirks and the people around them react basically the same.

just as good as the first

this book is quickly becoming one of my favorites it's funny wholesome and has its action packed moments and we got some answers lore wise but also so many more questions in this book I absolutely loved the jokes pulled by the gang on a certain somone (no it was not on fisher) but I'm not going to spoil the book it's certainly worth the credit to listen

Pew Pew Sand worth of Laughter

If you have read or listened to the first book, the second is just as amazing if not more. The narrator's way of telling the story is amazing and captivating. I will be listening to the story again when Book 3 release (Already Preordered it)

Just as good as the first one

it was so nice to find that the second book was not inferior to the first book.

Fish On!!!

I loved the first book and the second installment was even better. It was funny without trying too hard and kept the relaxed pace that was set in the first book. I would recommend reading the series to anyone looking for a chill adventure.

Great slice-of-life cultivation story

Very enjoyable to hear the next part of Fisher’s story as his fishy influence spreads. Narration is top notch and I can’t wait to hear what happens next.

Pros and Cons (no spoilers)

Pros:
- Just like the first this is a great slice of life story with enough extra elements to keep you coming back for more.
- The world is starting to look a little bigger outside of Tropica and I am excited to see the implications.
- Characters are still just as engaging and realistic as the first book. It is always refreshing to see people act like real people instead of adhering to standard story tropes (An interaction between Fischer and Barry about a certain person was a perfect example of this).
- The current and new animal pals were excellent as usual and one new addition is definitely my new favorite.
- The character progression is handled in a truly organic way unlike a lot of stories where nothing happens or progress is supposedly made but then characters go right back to being the same a few minutes later.
- Lack of real world issues are always a win for me (escapism).

Cons:
- There are really only 2 and they aren't a detraction for me. At least not yet.
- The author needs to be careful with how many characters they introduce. It is right on the edge of being to much that it's starting to shift other characters to the background, including some of the animal pals. It was fine for this book but it if Haylock keeps adding more it will likely become a problem. But considering how well written this has been so far I may be overreacting.
- The development of a certain relationship is really touching and I enjoyed it to an extent but it does drag a little bit.

Overall, 5 out of 5 for me and I would recommend it to anyone who will listen. After you listen to the first book anyway ;) .
