About this listen

Goat yoga. Beer yoga. Dance party yoga. Wine and chocolate yoga. Based on the popularity and prevalence (and creativity) of yoga styles in Western culture today, it seems like anything counts as yoga. But how true is this to the original, authentic practice?

To truly live a yogic lifestyle, you have to understand the true purpose of yoga: to help us learn to work systematically with our minds and with our bodies to better navigate the world outside us - and within us. No, you don’t need to be Hindu to live a yogic lifestyle. But you do need to broaden your awareness of how your lifestyle choices affect, and are affected by, the world around you.

In just 10 lessons, yogi, cognitive psychologist, and international yoga teacher Heidi Sormaz guides you through rewarding perspectives on an enlightening lifestyle. How to Live a Yogic Lifestyle reveals what, exactly, people are doing when they practice yoga - and what, exactly, yoga teachers are teaching. Forget about conflicting, confusing information. This authoritative Audible Original shows you how to start practicing yoga from where you are, and how to create a lifestyle of consciously shaping your attitudes and actions according to this ancient and modern philosophy of thought and motion.

That ineffable feeling that lingers in the air after an invigorating yoga class (outdoor or indoor, hot or cold)? You’ll feel the same after spending time with these lessons, too.

I’ve been doing yoga for years. Mainly for exercise. I have also been meditating for years. However I never understood the interconnection of the two until I heard this book. Highly recommend for those of use wanting to either get a better understanding of what yoga really is or to deepen our practice. Thank you Heidi for such an enlightening read.

I discovered this book while reading another one on yogic philosophy and discipline. I quickly shifted my attention because I found the original one difficult to get through. The author of this book presents ancient ideas in a way that’s easier to grasp by adapting them to scenarios relevant to modern life.

Easier to follow yogic discipline

I just completed my 200hr teacher training and was looking for some further reading to help me cement the yoga theory in my mind. This was such a simple practical look at some concepts that I will def be listening to it again when I feel like I need a refresher.

This is great for everyone, to begin a yoga practice or deepen one.

Amazingly simple

I enjoyed listening to this book about yoga. As a yoga teacher I am familiar with the content and always look forward to a different perspective. I have always lived in the United States therefore my perspective is that of a “westerner.” I use to feel as though my practice was somehow less authentic because I did not receive training in India. Frankly I have no desire to visit India. I’ve assimilated my life experiences into my practice and my teaching. Heidi explains yoga as a means to change one’s habits through observing oneself. In order to change you must recognize what it is you want to change. I’m not talking about anything physical, rather mental which involves thinking. Learning how you think is exciting because only you can do this. Whatever you do on the mat can be applied to the other 23 hours in a day.
