About this listen

Dorian survived the desert by the skin of his teeth. Now he’s at the Oasis, a marvel of technology and magic ripe for the conquering. He plans to continue his speedrun, sucking the Oasis’ resources dry and going on his merry way.

THE MULTIVERSE HAS OTHER PLANS

The shadowy foe that Old Man Fate long warned of finally steps into the light, a foe powerful enough to threaten the very foundations of the Multiverse. A foe from Dorian’s past, of Dorian’s own making, who has come to seek revenge—first by taking over the realm. And then by exterminating him. Not if Dorian has anything to say about it.

Book two of this exciting LitRPG cultivation adventure about an ancient god who’s reached the apex of his power progression and has decided to reincarnate multiple times to try and speedrun the Dao and reach the peak of cultivation.

Great contination to the story

The main antagonist is compelling and a great foil to Dorian's character. My only gripe with this book 2 is a HUGE spoiler. The ending. It was good, but a detail of it was... disappointing. Wish they would have lived. I won't say anymore.

Good stuff

In the last chapters the power scale and how the MC obtained the power felt a bit wishy washy, compared how the author wrote the story until then. At the end though I understood why and I liked his decision.

I enjoy the series and bought the next book in the installment

story picks up where last book left off

I love long books, but I gotta say I'm more than 1/2 way through this one and it feels like a lot of it is just filler the humor is meh I came for tournament but 15 hours into book, and still no tournament a bunch of side ventures that I didn't particularly care for and I don't see the value. doesn't feel like its speed anything. I've paused for now and moved to path of the berserker . I plan on finishing the book but I suspect I may need to listen in clumps instead of straight through.

practically nothing to do with the first

This book is pretty good on its own but it is a terrible sequel. It has almost nothing in common with the first book excemp for the general premise. there are also discrepancies in it that genuinely make me think the two books had different authors. the characters do manage to exist in both books completely change their personalities.

The narration is is superb with great inflection and it still sounds good at faster and slower speeds.

Might not finish this one

I believe it to be a good book but it's one thing to make your audience intentionally uncomfortable, but I've also been grimacing for nearly the whole first two hours. From depictions of young child dead and decaying, to children burying hundreds of bodies, to calling a sister a pet, then the constant sexual harassment that has happened so far upon entering the "oasis". I'm not ignorant of reality but I'm listening to fantasy/litrpg for escapism and power fantasy, not a reminder of how cruel the real world actually is and not how I felt when my three year old sister had cancer, beat it, then relapsed. If you can relate to this sentiment this book may not be for you, at least the beginning isn't. I'm writing this review very early but overall it won't be above a 4 whether I finish it or not.

Cultivation done right

This is a cultivation lit RPG. This one is executed with a sense of whimsy and a depth of character you do not normally see in the genre anymore. I would put this in the top 3 of cultivation, and top 10 of lit rpg in general. It’s worth the ride for sure. The narration of the guild master made me to an actual spit take at work. Big ol business 🤣
