About this listen

As usual, Montana Coggeshall is hell-bent on doing what's right, even if what's right isn't exactly what's wise. So he embarks on a quest to vanquish the corrupted ursus, a threat so large they could destroy the entire world of iNcarn8.

Does Montana head out after months of training for cold weather conditions, amassing an army, and strategizing with his top aides? Not really. It's more like he just walks out of his holding one day with a guide and the members of his hirð. They're just a bunch of angry teddy bears, right?

Montana is acting on pure instinct, tinged with a healthy dose of rage. He's stripped bare, and soon finds himself without food, supplies, a key magic weapon, or even his most loyal friends. Still, he continues.

Montana Coggeshall is on the hunt.

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

If you've enjoyed the ride up to book 7 I see no reason as to why you won't like this book. My only complaint is that it is too short.

my only complaint is that the narrator would sometimes use the same voice for several characters in a row, as if he forgot he gave them their own voices/accents previously.

creative world building

Mr. Ugland,
Please, take your time in continuing this series. It's wonderful. Keep it wonderful by taking your time.

To everyone else, listen to this series. It moves at just the right pace. The characters are true to their principles but grow as people. This is fine entertainment!

The few issues I was starting to have at the end of the last book? Totally resolved. And it really made me like Montana even better (what I didn't think was possible). He really is a good guy. Not a cliche action movie Mary Sue, but a likable guy, still growing as a character. Eric Ugland has become my favorite fantasy writer now. And I was immensely pleased that Neil Hellegers was retained as the performer (and is hands down my favorite reader). Neil has the range to play a large, diverse cast which is neither distracting (to take you out of the suspension of belief) nor stereotypical in portrayal, a feat unparalleled. And the ending!!! I nearly burst... just when you thought everything was going to be okay....

But he was getting the hang of it!

Love how The author brings to life these characters. Great mix of comic relief with serious tones. loves how the author does the skills in the book and doesn't beat you over the head with skill sheets all the time.

very invested

2020 (2021) has been a tough year(s). So, when I feel overwhelmed I listen to (escape into) the series to cheer me up. And I’m not embarrassed to admit I have probably listened to both the Good Guys and Bad Guys series 4-5 times. Like I said, it been a rough year.

These books have the perfect blend of humor, action and drama. The characters are well developed, honest, and consistent. But not depressing like you would find in “great literature”. After all, it’s a pandemic! I don’t need, or want, tragic emotionally deep characters. Yuck! Instead; Ugland provides protagonists who are heroic, humble, and fallible, without being sappy, or hopeless.

The action is well paced, comic relief perfectly timed, and storyline isn’t predictable. Even after 14 books, to date, I am happy to report I still get surprised.

I can not recommend both the Good Guys and Bad Guy series enough! (Which is why I’ve copy-n-paste this review into all the series books).

Best Series Ever!
