Fascinating, hard to put down, and filled with powerful case histories. . . . the most important series of breakthroughs in mental health in the last thirty years (Norman Doidge, author of The Brain That Changes Itself)
Dr. van der Kolk's masterpiece combines the boundless curiosity of the scientist, the erudition of the scholar, and the passion of the truth teller (Judith Herman, M.D., author of Trauma and Recovery)
A masterpiece of powerful understanding and brave heartedness, one of the most intelligent and helpful works on trauma I have ever read. . . a brilliant synthesis of clinical cases, neuroscience, powerful tools and caring humanity, offering a whole new level of healing (Jack Kornfied, author of A Path With Heart)

I expected a new age type narrative. This is definitely not that. A very interesting and insightful book.

Not what I expected. Brilliant

The book covers trauma from various angles. Coming from a science background it was eye opening to see the physical effects of trauma on the body.
After finishing this book, many things fell into place in my life.. my past and present.
I enjoyed every hour of it.
To the author: I can not thank you enough. My life will not be the same after finding my scores.

Life changer

Narrated perfectly, this book opens up your mind to the vast array of mental health, trauma & long term implications of a rough start to life or reaction to trauma as life goes on. A tough listen at times that requires compassion and understanding. I highly recommend The Body Keeps The Score.

Eye opening

‘The Body Keeps the Score’ has certainly changed the way I regard trauma and its long-term effects on the mind and body, as well as on society at large. The author makes a compelling argument for trauma as being a major cause of illness, disfunctional behaviour, crime and inter-generational trauma. The book is packed with personal anecdotes, and supported with information on scientific studies, treatment programs and other initiatives.
Definitely a book to revisit and share.
Insightful, moving and uplifting - highly recommended!

A valuable shift in perspective!

Aside from the well-researched and fascinating information about psychological and physiological effects of trauma + successful therapies, the book also addresses some of the historical and “political” context of the struggle to see and recognize and properly diagnose/treat patients. Really well-done.

Excellent description of psychology of resume and ptsd in context

The author knows what he's talking about. He has rich experience to communicate buut unfortunately he does a mediocre job at it. The story is repetitive and boring. It is too much about himself and his achievements.

Good material. Poor narrative

A book that leave you thinking, subject interesting , but be aware that traumas from past might come up

Must read
