This is so true

This book really helped me understand how I first fell into a toxic relationship, and how my circle of influence made it seem like his behavior should be acceptable. I especially like the section that talked about “How they show up initially and how they present themselves at first”, which can help me avoid falling into another toxic relationship.

Extremely helpful

I would highly recommend this book for anybody trying to get through a toxic relationship. I have personally been in a toxic relationship over five years and have broken up possibly over 30 times. This book covers the cycle that you go through this breaking up and getting back together Cycle. I will definitely re-read this book many times so that I can really concrete the information into my head. It not only gives you information on the toxic relationship, but gives you helpful tools to work through, not falling back into the same traps.

Actionable and full of examples

I’m in a healthy relationship and only listened to this cuz author gave a good interview on “A Little Bit Culty” podcast. I loved this book and will be recommending it to several friends. Author gives a lot of examples - always helpful - and avoids a simplistic victims-and-abusers narrative. I found this book extremely actionable and grounded in reality, setting it apart from more airy fairy “what am I supposed to do with that?” paradigms like attachment style (which frankly seem to categorize people into jerks vs not jerks categories).

Not much on recovery or getting past

I struggled. had to keep skipping. it's more about history and symptoms instead of how to cope and get out. felt more like I was in a class.
