Complete descriptions of conflict and anecdotes

I appreciated the anecdotes for a variety of life situations. I also looked forward to the pros, cons, questions to consider at the end of each chapter. The approach is thoughtful. It was a quick read that you could immediately put into action.

Essential Communication Skills

This is a new favorite that I recommend to all my friends. Emily provides clear examples of different conflict approaches, the pros and cons of different styles and how to use another approach that is better suited to the circumstance. Her examples are clear and relatable. I listened to the audio book and have just purchased the print copy — I want copies of the questions she asks at the end of each chapter to help me improve my abilities and to help teach my teenage children the different approaches to conflict. The examples and insights keep this book very interesting — and totally practical. Highly recommend.

Relatable, instructive and practical

I’d recommend this book to anyone who would like to improve their knowledge and skill set around solving conflict, especially those who are generally avoiders of conflict. Emily Taylor does a great job with stories and examples to help you navigate those situations with more options in your tool belt.

Amazing, amazing and useful information that I wish I learned much sooner

What I loved about this book was how it turned a tricky and complicated subject into something hopeful and navigable. Conflict is never going to be easy, but with the tools from this book, I feel I understand better how to approach the conflict in my life with more calm and direction. I wish there was a Boot Camp you could attend afterward to kind of hone the skills. Or some kind of cheat sheet Bookmark that you can pull out every time you find yourself in the midst of a conflict and don’t know how to resolve it without further combustion. What I appreciated most were the very personal and vulnerable experiences of the author, sharing her own mistakes, and life errors to clearly illustrate the concepts. I felt the writing was clear and easy to understand, the format was digestible in a really good way. It was written for clarity and function, and gives me hope I could actually achieve change …not just philosophical enlightenment.
