When Pyresouls released, it was a brutal new virtual reality game with a twist: The first to beat the game would win billions of dollars. But after the Burgon Beast couldn’t be defeated, Pyresouls turned very real and unleashed an apocalypse of undead, monsters, and a system of levels and stats onto the world. For many years since, Jacob Windsor has fought with sword and shield to survive Post-Collapse Earth where only ancient, guilt-soaked weaponry can harm the monsters from Pyresouls.

Story
Noah didn’t expect much from entering the virtual reality world of Asgard’s Fall. Even the danger of the experimental full immersion technology didn’t put him off. It beat living in a nursing home, and it was supposed to let him feel young again...at least until modern medicine and his body gave out. But there was something wrong with Asgard’s Fall. Most of the time, the “gods” running the game didn’t act like AIs were supposed to. Some of the players took things too seriously, like they knew something about the game that Noah didn’t.

“Greetings, welcome to The Land of The Lessermen. You have arrived in the nick of time. War looms, its dire thunderheads crowding our once glorious sky. This land needs a strong hand such as yours. A hundred must battle for victory, and at the end, there can be only one.”
You’ve played the games, now listen to the book!
For Connor O’Grady this nightmare comes true. He wakes in a land and is propelled into an age called Legendary, where he has to fight his way up from nothing, literally nothing, not even a pair of pants. Story
Jack is violently pulled into a game-like universe and dumped into a seaside town on the brink of destruction. When the people of Blackmoor Cove begin to ask about his combat role, Jack discovers his odd Hero Class and finds that parts of his game interface are riddled with exposed coding errors. He quickly learns that the only way the town can grow and push back the unknown substance threatening to consume it is if brave Heroes venture into an infinitely high, ever-changing tower, kill bizarre monsters for their equipment drops, and then deposit those items into a special chest.

With this ability to command magical beasts, I might just live out the apocalypse. Together with a ragtag group of survivors, we're wading through the mayhem while searching for somewhere safe. Somewhere that monsters aren't desperately trying to kill us, where the opportunistic among humanity aren't looking for easy XP.

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has . . . Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere. Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway.

Entertaining!
This novel was unexpectedly thorough and entertaining. There were times when I felt like the MC was OP. I also did not get some of his strategies. Nevertheless, it was a great start. I will keep an eye out for the next installment.

Misleading reviews
People who are used to litrpgs know it’s about the story and the stats so I don’t know what some were expecting. And yes there is a bunch of random kisses as much from random people and the MC, slow start but great story

all that you would want in a litrpg
i enjoyed this book it has building in it what most the book is about an has leveling monsters to be taken down cultivating gathering up a army make a stronghold ect an seems like the book will lead into pvp in book 2 when it comes out yes it has rankings for the players as they build up cities strongholds gather armies ect an the MC seems to bee OP at the end of the book but not sure yet tell pvp starts up after the 30 day safe period also has a surprise to why the players are in this new game world but that would be a spoiler but easy to figure out. if you watch the anime Gantz somewhat like that.

Good Base Building/Management Book
I cannot recommend this book enough. Very good book with good base building mechanics. I like that the main character seemed to grow faster with the use of different strategies, and while certainly a compitent combatant, it was clear that he was strong because of his stats and willingness to get the job done, not because he, a random guy from earth, suddenly became a swordmaster. I can't wait for book 2 in audio form.... Plus, who doesn't like the thought of a sky cavalry of wyverns and dragons?!!!

Good
I liked it overall. The characters are done well and the progression is good. I just wish the battles and the fights were better as in you listen to the characters grind for more power for hours and then when the big payoff is supposed to finally come about, it seems awfully abbreviated. I will be getting the next book in the series though since I do want to know what happens to these characters.
