Publisher's summary

Noctem is a dream come true. Dreams don’t last forever. Nightmares might.

Existing within a virtual world shared across millions of users while they sleep, the online game, Carpe Noctem, offers a life of magic and adventure. For a scruffy gunslinger like Max, and a snarky fairy like Kira, it’s home.

Unfortunately, Noctem’s creator, and unhinged genius, has been fired. On his way out, he slapped a doomsday button to bring the system crashing down and send the global economy into ruin.

To save their second home, Max and Kira will need to assemble a party of misfits to conquer a quest of nightmares, and discover the secrets that lurk within the game.

If they fail, they’ll lose more than they can imagine… but winning has its own price.

Excited for Re-Release, Let Down

David Petrie wrote a FANTASTIC series, my favourite so far!
So after hearing Luke Daniels deliver a magnificent narration that gives this book justice, I was told the ENTIRE SERIES was going to be narrated!!!
BUT with someone else.

I was nervous but mostly excited.

Let's say your favourite toy was Transformers, you read all the comics and all the shows!

Then Grandma says she'll get you a COOL NEW Transformer... only to wake up on Christmas morning to get Go Bots.

Yea, you'll play with it, but you'll be pretending Luke Daniels (or equivalent) might come back to save the day.

If this is what I have to look forward to, I'll just reread the books instead.

A perfect delight... join-up and Party Hard!

I picked up this book solely on the recommendation by Travis Baldree. I know a narrator makes a living off of the sales of his his/her books, but there are occasions when Travis makes a little more effort in promoting a book's release, and when he says that this book was one of his favorites to do, I believe him! And boy I'm glad I did as it's one of the best litRPG's that I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing!
Party Hard is tightly written, fun, and it has a lot of action. I'm sure you'll find plenty to L💖VE, from a ship named Nostromo, to a reference about Little Nemo in Slumberland, plus there's even a quip about Mothra!
The pleasure I got from Party Hard was due in part to Travis Baldree's wonderful voice performance. I think that his own delight with the story was transmitted directly into my brain somehow!
So grab this perfectly delightful book, join-up with Max, Kira, and the rest of their group, and remember... Party Hard!

High Stakes

A great addition to my GameLit/LitRPG collection. I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of gender identity into the story and the ways in which that guided the story. I have a lot of questions after the first book and am excited to see if they are answered in book 2.

Great new series!

It has a excellent character development, story, friendship, and comedy. The battle scenes are vivid and world setting is very creative. The ending for the first two books has been great.

Grows on you.

The beginning is shakey with odd pacing. But the characters are great and the plot does end up becoming compelling. I'm excited to see where the story goes from here.
Biggest complaint is way to many pop culture references. This is made more jarring by how hard the writing avoids genre convention terminology like 'Tank' or 'DPS'. I assume the references were to make it feel like this could be our world in ten years, but then the conspicuous absence of standard gaming jargon cuts the other way.

Dnd quest to save the world

This story feel to me like a dnd quest, which so happens to save the world. there is some great character moments , and interesting class mechanics and an unique world mechanics which left me really wanting to try it out. my only complaint was that you never really felt the danger of it all. characters go through some intense moment and the character develop is decent. but u never fear for them for the most part. a lot of things just seem like they playing the game and ur along for the ride. with the fate of their game world and the world economic they seemed a little to chill. would have loved to see some of that tension spill over. to be fair though the team where expect gamer in the mission so this really could be par for the course for them. anyway still fun read. and the ending left you feeling like this was just the beginning. just started the second book can't wait to see what happens

Refreshing take on the stuck in a game trope

I really enjoyed this story, and Travis does an excellent job of bringing it to life. He was a perfect selection for this story.

Travis’s tone was perfect. He wasn’t too fast or slow. I hate having to speed audio books up and I didn’t feel that need throughout the whole book. The different voices he used throughout the story were spot on to what I envisioned in my head the first time I read this.

Really liked the character choices and unique game elements. It really made me feel like I was reading something different for a change. The stats are there but definitely not overwhelming. It was nice to listen to a story that didn’t have to stop for ten minutes to list out a string of stats.

The author is definitely a great wordsmith, and the book itself is very well edited. (I have the ebook version as well)

The twist on the bad guy kept me intrigued and had me guessing throughout the book.

I can’t wait for the second one.

what an ending

I didn't see that coming. I love that this book is a bit different than most. The team that was out together for the quest was really fleshed out and you felt for each one of them. combat in the book was pretty awesome too. I think the contract items are very interesting and wish that was something available in games that I play.

Absolutely fantastic

Normally, I enjoy interactions and world building and whatnot, but the amount of psychological exploration and sympathetic characters really grabbed me in this one. Having read several books in his zombie litRPG series, I expected this to be more silly, but I was wrong in a good way
