Publisher's summary

It's easy to identify rage in people who lose their temper at traffic jams, unruly children, unresponsive coworkers, and unrealistic bosses. But we may not recognize more subtle manifestations of anger, such as being uncomfortable with loose ends, acting impatiently, or being overly critical. That is anger, too. And, as is so often the case, angry folks don't seem to realize that the behavior causing them problems at home or at work actually stems from unrecognized and unresolved pain and emotional injuries from the past. Is all this negative emotion inevitable, or are there choices about how to respond, choices that can improve personal relationships as well as emotional health?

The Anger Trap is a landmark book that strips away the myths and misconceptions about anger and reveals how you can learn to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy anger so that you may choose or help someone else to choose a better, more spiritually enlightened path. The Anger Trap examines the root causes of anger and can help you realize your patterns and break the destructive cycles of criticism, frustration, and irritation that hurt you and others around you.

Drawing insight from timeless spiritual wisdom as well as cutting-edge research, Dr. Carter offers practical techniques to free you from anger, its hidden insecurities, fears, and selfishness and thereby improve the quality of your home and workplace life. The book clearly illustrates how the change process works and The Anger Trap is filled with real-life examples of the ways people have come to terms with their anger by applying the concepts Dr. Carter outlines.

Poignant reminder

Most of this material was a poignant reminder of the inverse effect of anger… in that it:
• Makes us weaker instead of stronger
• Causes the message to be lost, despite its’ validity
• IS A CHOICE
• Can be exchanged with kindness, but it takes real EFFORT
Really good source for grounding back to appropriate discipline.

anger management for everyone

I've listened to a few books and this one is the most thorough and thoughtful approach I found. Seems very grounded in both common sense and therapeutic experience. Highly recommend

Its ok to struggle...you can change!!

I currently have been struggling with my own battles on this issue. I found this book downloaded it and started listening while I was at work. I was so hooked on the information provided. I was taking it all in. It made me think about my past experiences, my triggers, how to rationalize a situation even if it may be to intense to handle at the moment, taking a break is ok when needed. This is a must listen, you will dig deep inside yourself, this book will make you think. I learned alot about myself.

Learned a ton!

Wouldn’t it be great if you learned about having a healthy relationship to your anger and how to be calmly assertive in a class in high school? Unfortunately, most of us don’t learn this in school or at home. That’s why we need Les Carter’s wisdom in this world! This was one of the most useful books I’ve ever listened to. Now, I’m going to buy myself a paper copy so I can refer to it whenever needed.

Life-changing

This book illustrates the different ways that anger manifests in our everyday lives, sometimes going by unnoticed, or even disguised as “help” to others. The authors narrate how the patients struggle to see what the problem is, or thinking everyone is wrong. As their stories unfold, it starts making sense why some of us react the way we do. I could definitely relate to a couple of patients. But, seeing the stories from their loved ones’ perspectives is what really made me realize the impact that anger has in our relationships.

True insight

I really liked the way the book was organized and narrated! Every chapter had some tangible piece of advice and exercises that you can quickly apply ! It is the first book I read/listened to about anger and really makes me excited about exploring others on the same topic! It’s amazing when you encounter a situation that would normally trigger anger and are able to see it objectively! So freeing!
