About this listen

The world is up for sale, and he's making an offer.

When Robin Waybright became the Merchant Hero, all of Pangeal turned into his marketplace; for the Merchant can buy and sell anything. Youth, skills, memories, hair color, joys and illnesses… in the trade of power, every deal can tip the scale.

And Robin needs power. His homeland of Archfrost teeters on the brink of collapse, the sinister Demon Ancestors plot in the shadows, and twenty-one other Heroes, each with their own Class, have been chosen to save the world of Pangeal. Not all of them are friendly.

There’s work to do… and profit to make.

Don't miss the next progression fantasy series from Maxime J. Durand, bestselling author of Apocalypse Tamer and The Perfect Run. Featuring a unique, commerce-based progression system, detailed world-building, three-dimensional characters, and a plot loaded with twist and turns!

The plot and characters are very well thought out. Great performance by the narrator though some of the occasional accents felt overdone. Love how the magic isn't exactly explained but given enough context where you can follow along.

A fantastic fantasy

I was skeptical going in, but this book rapidly made me a believer. I am particularly hard to please on narration. However, the narrator of the story added so very much to a tale already immensely interesting and entertaining. It’s refreshing to stumble upon such a uniquely written fantasy novel. The characters are well defined, the magic system is unlike anything I’ve read before, and the way all of these elements flow together is just plain awesome. I started the book as just a time killer. A story to play in the background as I went about my day. But, the darn thing is so good, I can’t get any work done without stopping to listen! I’m so glad that I found this author, narrator, and of course, this particular book. Already looking forward to the other works from both parties. If you like a great story with the narrator perfectly suited for the feel and flow of said story, do not miss this gem!

Let me start by saying that I was gifted a copy of this audiobook by the publisher. Although I did not pay for a copy of this audiobook, I would gladly do so. The MC is likeable without being boringly predictable, confident without being arrogant, and just genuinely fun. I enjoyed all of the varied characters involved and their back stories. Their addition added depth to the world instead of just being generic hero classes filling slots. I would say that the story itself is a great blend of world-building, action, exploration of abilities, and intrigue. The narrator does the story a service through different accents and voices, helping each character to feel separate despite being all voiced by the same person. The narrator did have a little too heavy of an inflection on the MC at first, but seemed to quickly find their niche. Lastly, I feel compelled to mention that use of the term "maidenless" and a joke of a ship being referred to as the "Queen Merica" brings a certain game to mind as subtle nods. Overall, this is a story I would and have recommended to others, and with the second audiobook out (which I have ready to go after I finish this re-listen) there's no better time to jump in.

A Fantastic Start to a Series

Enjoyed the Perfect Run series by same author.

DNF first of this series. Narrator made everything boring and prose fell flat. Jokes were pre pubescent and couldn’t care about any of the characters.

Meh

I recommend is listening to the sample. My first impression of the narrator was that he has an accent that I didn't like but the more I listened the more I got over how he spoke. I'd also like to say there is almost no lit-rpg aspects in contrast to most of Void Hearld's other works. so no stat windows at all but his class does give him certain strengths. Robin has to experiment to figure out what his powers do. All in all I say this book laid all the groundwork for a great series. There was world building and a steady introduction to how magic interacts with the world and how the heros foes operate and I'd say I'm invested in where the story will go next.

A good start

It just doesn’t do anything. They just meet other hero’s that suck, they just need the merchant and that would be interesting but this sucks. The perfect run was good until the third book. But I will not get anymore of this series and not sure if author is for me.

Nope. It sucks

good idea and well executed. a post apocalyptic world of magic and sword. Many hundred years have passed but the world is still guided by past conflict

finally not a power fantasy.

It sets up as buy and sell anything but its more of buy skills and knowlage of how to do things like sword fighting or playing a game without realy knowing how too. Mc just meets other with abilities like can see someones technique and copy all cuse the power is recognizing muscle movements and stances. I forget how many there are with unique powers but the story totaly had me. It was interesting, demons coming and cool powers, it was better than i thought it would be. Definately had some parts of buying and selling.

Not bad.
