From iconic actor and best-selling author Alan Alda, an indispensable guide to communicating better - based on his experience with acting, improv, science, and storytelling.

The beloved actor shares fascinating and powerful lessons from the science of communication and teaches listeners to improve the way they relate to others using improv games, storytelling, and their own innate mind-reading abilities. With his trademark humor and frankness, Alan Alda explains what makes the out-of-the-box techniques he developed after his years as the host of Scientific American Frontiers so effective. This book reveals what it means to be a true communicator and how we can communicate better in every aspect of our lives - with our friends, lovers, and families; with our doctors; in business settings; and beyond.

It isn't a lot of fun but a lot to think of

I think author used all what he knew about empathy, about need to be a dramatic to sink in brains of your audience — all what this book about in general. It's very nice and instructive.

I prefer a bit boisterous voice but this sounds good enought.

Brilliant

Alan Alda is as fun to listen to as he is brilliant. His ability to craft a story and deliver it as any great scene he has over the many years is remarkable. Great stories and reminders of things we need to attend to for the sake of relationships and happiness.

Alan Alda as author and storyteller- what could be better?

This book was an absolutely delightful way to learn about communication. We had many “aha” moments as we listened. And Alan Alda was a joy to listen to.

Unexpectedly Impacted Me.

I have mush respect for Alan Alda; and with a title like that, how could I pass it up. It's excellent listen. And to my surprise, I've found my approach to communicating has changed.

It's not dumbing it down. It's communicating.

I have been following Alan Alda for the past decade and a half, ever since I watched his programs on Scientific America. I know firsthand how difficult it is to stand in between two complicated professions; business and science. They are communities who speak completely different languages but need each other in order to prosper. He's done a beautiful job at understanding the importance of communication, especially in topics within the STEMs (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). This practice is so critical and important to benefit all of society. Now, I love how he is taking the basic premises and practices of communication and applying some of the biological research behind communication. This is so important for those within these technical fields to really promote their ideas in order to get support for their efforts. This is even more critical in this day and age where communication is lost through technology of 140 characters or less. Thank you, Alan.

Fascinating and Inspiring

This is one of those books that I find myself referring to again and again when talking with teachers and scientists, students and administrators as we try to immerse ourselves in meaningful STEM projects. Thank you Alan Alda.

Excellent book for scientists and everyone else

I am a chemistry professor. I found the advice in this book useful in my teaching and writing. I will give this book to the five students in my research group as a Christmas present.
