Publisher's summary

A powerful century-old soldier returns to Earth from the Otherworld and attempts to reclaim his former life in this thrilling fantasy novel.

For 130 years, Kreig Wiedermann has fought: first, as a teenage recruit for the Holy Order; then, as a soldier for the Empire; and most recently, as an immortal godlike warrior devoted only to avenging himself. The lust of combat is all he knows—until a portal opens on the battlefield and brings him back to the world from which he came.

Despite the decades Kreig has survived in the Otherworld, only ten short years have passed on Earth, which means the life he considered lost forever might still be waiting for him. But rejoining humankind won’t be easy.

For one thing, the International Otherworld Combat and Research Organization isn’t about to let a monstrous stranger with an unfathomably high level just wander around without first making sure he won’t wreak havoc on the planet. For another, Kreig has been tortured, imprisoned, betrayed, and hunted for years; he’s got his own demons to confront before he can reunite with his family and take up a normal life.

Plus, there’s the little problem that not everyone thinks Kreig should be allowed to even dream of rehabilitation. And no matter how much he tries to leave his past behind, there are forces threatening to drag him back into his bloody legacy . . .

A bold and clever twist on a classic isekai tale, Returning to No Applause, Only More of the Same is a dramatic, character-driven fantasy that proves the old adage “There’s no place like home.”

A Great Rendition of OP MC and a Return to a slice of Life

very well written, and excellently performed. A captivating story about coming home from something traumatizing.

Subverted Expectations

This Book was better than I had expected. It perfectly Portrays the psychological aftermath of an Isekai Survivor story. This story hooked me emotionally quite early on and it never let go. I found no overall issues with any aspects of the story. Although towards the end of the book I was consistently cursing out a certain snot nosed youth for being an Arrogant "Female Dog". However I fully admit that stupid acts of rebellion that hurt people are perfectly in character for that age group. At least from my own experience. I found the love story in this book to be exceptionally cute.

Dqniel W did an excellent job with the narration as usual. The only thing that could have made this book better would have been the Addition of a Female Narrator to Portray the Female voices.

Fascinating, albeit serious, take on Isekai genre

This book was pretty unexpected. It deals with things I didn't normally associate with Isekai books, like mental health, reacclimating to society, and feeling misunderstood and alone. Most books in this genre are about progression fantasy and being powerful, while this book focuses on the MC being traumatized, listless, and a tortured soul.

What if you got zapped to a world full of powerful people abusing the weak, endless wars, torture, abuse, and slavery? How would it change you? How would you feel if you went through that and then came back and had to try to enter a normal life?

This was an incredible story that I recommend!

With a big departure from the typical stereotypes of the genre, this is an excellent read! The journey is well worth the listen and I only wish that there were more of it to listen to. Loved it! That you to the Author!

this book.

Ive read and listened to many Isekai always wondering what happens if those people who being fundamentally changed by the things they've seen and done cope when finnaly returning home. this book has addressed that and it was done beautifully and with wholesome yet bittersweet view on how it would go.
a different view on what "War" one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse could be. instead of a being of untold power bringing war on a massive scale with his very presence it shows the other side of what war is. a very tired old soul finaly getting home, dealing with PTSD, confronting all the wrongs hes done, and horrors he has seen.

I enjoyed this book very much. The building tension of knowing what will happen, the small very subtle play expectations and foreshadowing such as the English teacher giving and assignment to subvert expectations. the way that i feel fully satisfied with an ending and dont feel the need for any more. no hollow feeling, just content with how it ended.

what a fantastic book. i fully recommend a listen

A great story of an unexplored concept

I know for the longest time I was on the fence on this one. However, I think this was an excellent story narrated by a fantastic & dependable narrator. The pacing does speed up near the half way point, and I believe it would have actually benefited being a bit longer in order to flesh out a few characters and relationships.

Although, I don't mean to say it needed to be a series. Not every story needs multiple books to be good. I just felt their was more to the cast that we just didn't get a chance to explore, or certain plot points were resolved too quickly and perfectly. However, overall, it was an enjoyable experience that will tug at your heartstrings from time to time, especially if you have lost an unexpected love one or have a veteran in the family. I do, though, recommend everyone to give it a chance.

Fantastic listen!

This book has depth and structure and elements you don’t get in a lot of novels of this kind. It’s about what happens after and the fear of not knowing how to be excepted.
If your looking for non stop action, this is not that kind of story. If your looking for something that is not the norm and captivating this book is for you!
Daniel kills it on Narration, though I do miss his partner Rebecca Woods.
Not sure if there will be a sequel but if there is, I would get it in a heartbeat, MC is pretty cool!

good listen

reminds me of a scifi series called Hank. ridiculously strong guy that no one can do anything about.

Wasnt much of an antagonist in the series.

I've listened to it twice. I hope the book gets another.

A great single book isaki return story

You don’t see to many books about returning from an isaki situation and it’s always a fresh breath of air about coming back and having a happy ending on earth. It doesn’t tie up every loose end but i think it’s for the best. Because real life doesn’t just end when the story is over.

Wow.

This was an incredibly interesting take on isekai. The story was unique and engaging. I had never heard of the author, but I'll be following all of their upcoming work.

Pick this up if you're interested in a well told story about an Isekai protagonist that goes home after becoming the strongest there is.

The author did a phenomenal job with this and as always, Daniel, as always, smashed the hell out of the narration. Kudos to you two. Thanks for the fun.
