About this listen

Against all odds, Rob and the Deserters have survived their second encounter with the eldritch abomination–known as the Blight–only for Rob to make first contact with the gods of Elatra in a very...aggressive way.

His enemies keep on piling up, and things are looking to get even tougher from here on out. If Rob and his friends want to survive their upcoming trials, they'll need to gain Levels, make new allies, and travel to the ends of the world and back again. Along the way, they'll discover some of the secrets behind Elatra's history, shaking their preconceptions of the world to its very core.

But what else is new? Rob has known for a long time that nothing was going to be easy. He's lost count of how many times he's almost died since being dragged through a portal against his will. Whether he's up against monsters, gods, or creatures beyond comprehension, Rob is determined to overcome it. He'll protect his friends, find a way home, and above all, survive.

There's no other choice.

can't wait for the next one.

The series is really really good. I cannot wait for the next one. I also hope to see Rob finally get back to Earth at some point or Jason to come to the New world also. I would love love to see like an ender shadow version that follows Jason from you know getting level 1 to level two his current levels. that would be an amazing book for after the series. please wait till after the series

Absolutely gorgeous work

Got this series originally because of the authors name. Though as I got into the series it let my heart reached, left me in awe, and excited for the next book. The author has a fantastic sense of humor, story telling, and stratified. I finished this series in a whole week. As for the narrator I’ve listened to a lot of his narrations they are all glorious. His voices are on point making the characters come more to life with each character development. Thank you to the author and the narrator. This is a series I’ve listened with my family and have suggested to friends. I definitely recommend it and can’t wait for the next one!

Fantastic book!

This has definitely moved up to the top 3 of my favorite series. Each book gets better and better. Love the dynamic of the world and the characters. MC is pretty OP but shares with whoever’s grouped with him so it makes it fun. And Neil is one of my favorite narrators!

Amazing

One of my favorite series out there, can't wait for the next one. Some others have said they didn't like the #!@#$!%@%@! chapter since it went on for so long but I think it shows his determination and insanity. That being said I'm pretty sure the @!@#!!#$ are supposed to be single, drawn out, ear piercing static sounds, and not a list of symbols like how it was preformed. Overall though great performance and getting better each book.

much smoother compared to the last book

the last book was good but struggled at times with pace this book is both longer while feeling more complete. the lost star is from somewhat standard plot conveniences and one annoying instance of "make the cast do something dumb for the story." overall I'm very satisfied

Excellent series continuation

KamikazePotato nailed another 5x5 review on this book of the series. The story progressed steadily, even more surprising considering the length of this book. The quests and challenges were interesting and thrilling. The many significant characters were characterized with unique attributes and personalities, including newer additions to the tale. Ample amount of twists, intrigue and surprises. The relationship issues with various characters was stretched out a bit more than I'd prefer but I enjoyed the deeper emotional revelations the author used these relationship hang-ups to provide a means to look deeper into those involved in these entanglements. I also liked the way the author bundled the character sheet reviews into separate mini-chapters that allowed the listener to easily skip if they wanted to keep the pace of the story going without the stat dumps.

Neil Hellegers' performance was fantastic and keeps him in a very small list of narrators who I search Audible for new titles they are narrating.

Every bit as good as the previous books

if you like the first two this is more the same. The will they/won't they arc goes on a bit too long for my taste never gets distracting from the rest of the novel.

I'm curious to see how the author handles increasing power levels in the next one

Despite some of the negatives, it’s one of the better lit rpgs I’ve read/listened to

Pros: writing is very good. Author knows how to paint you a picture and make you feel what the characters are feeling (the narrator adds to this).
The narrator does another excellent job with Rob with MC, but…(see below)

Cons: someone else mentioned this already, but I think it’s worth mentioning because of how much it is said. The repetitiveness of “dollar sign ampersand, forward slash…” is quite annoying. There was one point in the book where it felt like this went on for several minutes.

The narrator does another excellent job with Rob with MC, but not so much with the other characters, particularly the females. I think is voice might be too low and it doesn’t vary enough, imo, but I did get used to it
