About this listen

A power to gain. Prices too high to pay. No one cheats death forever.

Digby finally has everything he wants: the heist went off without a hitch, the shards of the Heretic Seed are in his possession, and Autem is in disarray. All he has to do is unlock the power he’s stolen. But it seems that restoring the Seed to its former glory is easier said than done. Something has gone wrong, and it’s up to Digby to fix it, whether he wants to or not.

Trapped within a twisted realm of memories, he’s forced to compete against the souls of past Heretics in a game of death with his existence on the line. To escape, he will have to play nice with the few allies he can find, then make his way to the finish line all while uncovering a conflict that has been hidden throughout the centuries. To make matters worse, until he can find a way home, everyone back in Vegas will need to step up to fill the void left by his absence.

When the dust settles, he may find that the power he seeks will cost him more than he bargained for.

I found and fell in love with this series last year and consumed the first three books in less than a week. I have terrible self control issues with things that bring me joy, this series is one of those things! The only issue that I had was that I had to wait a year for book four, I'm so greedy that it was almost unbearable!
All silliness aside, Petrie is an amazing author and I'm in love with these characters and I enjoy the hell out of the amazing adventures he takes me on with every book. This man is a treasure! Baldree's narration is perfection! I can barely wait for the next book.

Book 4 makes me an even bigger fan!

Solid book! the character's development in this book was great. I think the story sets up book 5 well and I'm excited to see what happens next.

In the best way. I didn’t want it to end. Still find it hilarious of him repeatedly losing clothing.
A lot of growth in characters. Can’t recommend this next book enough!

Like Death and taxes

First off I will start as all of my other reviews of the previous books in the series and say the book is great, however the constant over use of words, phrases and actions is very annoying and I'm disappointed that the author hasn't broadened his vocabulary. How many times must we read descriptions such as "Eyes bulged" "Looked sideways" "Tilted their head" "Deadpan" or the lines "such as Fair enough" over and over in every book? What started as a minor annoyance has now turned into full blown irritation that after four books words and phrases such as these are still being over used rather than learning new words or phrases to use in their place. In some instances some aren't even used properly for the situation.

I love the story and love the narration and won't fault the author too much in the ratings, however I won't ever give one of their books a 5 star overall rating until these things are taken care of. Thankfully no one stood up twice or sat down twice in this book as it did in book 3, so there was improvement at least in the editing.

Same issues exist still in book 4

First, I would like to say that I love this series. Book 4 was a little disappointing. You know when you watch a great show and then there’s an episode that is necessary for the story but isn’t as great as the other episodes? That’s what this book was. However, I will say that the ending was great.
