About this listen

There's a single ambition no man can reject: immortality.

For John, death was merely the beginning. Transmigrating into a new world granted him an opportunity to change his view on life. With power and immortality as new goals, he is willing to pay any price. Unfortunately, there are those willing to take advantage of him and his unfamiliarity with a new world. Shadows behind the curtains, unwilling to reveal themselves, will trick him into doing their bidding.

Now, John faces an entire kingdom on his own. Deceived? Conned? They don't care. His actions carry a sin none of them are willing to forgive. With the world as an enemy, John will fight to accomplish his goals. His path will be stopped by no one.

Listen to this novel to enjoy a journey of self-discovery, ambition, and revenge.

Mostly excellent.

For a first book this was great. It has some of the tell tale signs of a writers first attempt, but it doesn't hurt the enjoyment. Narrator takes some time to find the character but is great afterwards. I would reccomend the book.

this was a really great take on the litrpg genre.

This isnt for everyone. the mc is not an idiot, is ruthless,bl and the idle gaming mechanic is important. no romances, few characters, and somehow better for it.

I can't wait for book 2.

Dull

Gave up after about 90 minutes it primarily described a gaming system and his interaction with it.

Miss-Ka-Lay-nee-us

Great story if you like super OP main characters.

Don't let the narrator's butchering of the word 'miscellaneous' fool you, other then the 7 times you want to beat your head against the wall hearing Miss-Ka-Lay-nee-us, he does a fine job.

Surprisingly fun.

There's something oddly satisfying about a main character who has little to no conscience. Our guy starts his adventure out on an unknown world by discovering he now has an ability called idle system. To be honest I've never heard of that type of game before, but after finding out what it actually was I realized I've played a few games like that. Anyway, the author does a bad job of explaining to us, as if we're already supposed to know what it is. I was very confused by the explanation. Hell, the character seemed just as confused for a while as well.

After that it's just ramps up continuesly. Our boy seems to care very little about taking life. The first glimpse of this is when he decides to hunt a species of monster bear to extinction, because he got caught under one and literally had to eat it off him after he punched it to death. Then he takes on assassin jobs with no hint of remorse at all. Essentially after he finds out killing humans can speed his grown. He starts trying to find excuses to kill people, even going so far as to willing go to jail for two days for a bar fight so he can kill criminals in "self defense". And it just gets crazier from there.

The main character, or only character really, doesn't seem to care about much else but getting stronger. No greater goal, no friends, no nothing. Hell, he barely stops killing long enough to sell his stuff. If your looking for character development, world building, or serous plot, then your barking up the wrong tree. However, if your looking for pure fun and entertainment then I doubt you'll find much better in the genre. I found myself grinning thorough most of this book. There's something oddly freeing about listening to a character with no inhibitions, no emotional hang ups, or a goody goody. Dudes in it for himself, and I'm completely cool with that. I've listened to probably over 100 litrpg books at this point, and I recommend this to anyone that wants to take a break on a book that didn't take itself to seriously, or at least I don't.

Interesting concept, flawed recording, good story

If you don't want to read the whole review the title says most of it. First off the recording on this first in the series has a serious humming noise anytime the narrator speaks. I am not sure if the narrator is new but he is a bit wooden early on in the book, the story and concept kept me listening. From what I understood in the book the main character is supposed to be British and he has an american accent.

I can only imagine if this was read by one of the top notch narrators. I would have given it 5 stars across.

I have listened to the first 3 books of the series and the narrator does "grow" in that his narration gets better. The hum noise is only heard on the first book and only when listening through headphones.

I have listened to a lot of the litrpg and life change type novels on audible. This was a refreshing take on the litrpg genre. I could almost imagine cookie clicker in the first part of the book when the character started growing his skills. I did enjoy that it is NOT an angsty novel about killing and doing things you wouldn't normally do to "level up".

If this is ever re-recorded I would suggest you have a second narrator read the system messages and the character sheet when it is read. It would give a more system feel to it.

Meh

Not a terrible listen and not the best ever either. It's not bad if you have a credit to burn and are looking for something.

The MC is pretty much a sociopath with no real empathy for anyone, which makes it difficult to empathize with him. Pretty much all of the characters are asshats.

The narrator has some... interesting... pronunciations... like miscellaneous. That was pretty jarring. Other than that, fair job of it. I would have liked the narrator to be British, since the MC is supposed to be.
