Story
Ryan and Kim Smith struggled with dysfunctional eating throughout their lives. They had been on the hamster wheel of diets long before they met. From 2003, they ate their way through a decade plagued by massive weight gain until 2014, at which point they topped out at well over 500 pounds combined. First, Ryan began a weight-loss effort, then Kim followed suit, eventually leading them both to intermittent fasting. The journey transformed not only their relationship with food but with themselves and with each other.

The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease.

How much of our daily caloric intake comes from ingesting substances that, technically speaking, do not meet traditional definitions of “food”? Chances are, if you’re eating something that came wrapped in plastic and contains a funky ingredient you don’t have in your kitchen, it's most likely—almost definitely—ultra-processed food, or UPF.

What should we eat? It's a simple and fundamental question that still bewilders us despite a seemingly infinite amount of available information on which foods are best for our bodies. Scientists, dieticians, and even governments regularly publish research on the dangers of too much fat and sugar as well as on the benefits of exercise, and yet the global obesity crisis is only worsening. Most diet plans prove to be only short-term solutions, and few strategies work for everyone.

The vast increase of metabolic diseases across the developed world has indicated severe and widespread problems with our levels and efficacy of metabolic hormones, such as insulin, leptin, ghrelin, and cortisol, which in turn affect other hormonally controlled systems in the body. The commonly given advice for taming hormonal mayhem? Lose weight. While calorie restriction and exercise can result in weight loss, the increased hunger and eventual reduction in the body’s energy usage do not often yield lasting results.

The Refresh is Just What You Need
Gin Stephens has done it again with this up to date refresh of Delay Don’t Deny! After having been an intermittent faster for over two years, I honestly thought my knowledge couldn’t be too much more impacted. Boy, was I wrong! Gin is dropping some jewels in this book that really have helped me get the most out of my fasts. Furthermore, the expounded section on the ADF method is excellent because it’s clear and concise. I highly recommend this 2nd Edition to any person wanting to start intermittent fasting. Save yourself some hassle and frustration with learning how to do it right, right out the gate!

Making IF easy.
I loved the first edition of this book and this second edition is just as good. The updates make it even easier to understand the various types of fasting and the science behind it. Gin makes it all easy.
The only issue I have with this Audible version is the audio quality. I’m disappointed. It’s very scratchy and many of the last words in a sentence get cut off. I wish Audible would find a way to correct this and make this a crisp, clear recording.

Bravo for 2nd Edition
Gin never disappoints! I downloaded yesterday and am enjoying every minute of DDD 2nd edition. It’s been a great review for me since I’ve listened to several of her books including the first edition of Delay Don’t Deny. The integration of the “Clean Fast” is so helpful. I highly recommend to anyone interested in intermittent fasting as well as experienced IFers!
