About this listen

Invasions and sabotage. Two civilizations doing anything to exist. War crimes are the norm.

Joe takes his first step into exile, and is promptly unable to breathe. This new Zone has a higher concentration of power, magnitudes denser. His first task is to survive, but mere survival is the least of his concerns.

The Zone he has landed on has been in a state of constant war for thousands of years, a tug of war between the Elven and Dwarven societies. Not choosing a side is the same as declaring both to be your personal enemy. Though he is resistant, Joe reluctantly decides to go with the group he thinks will help him grow the most - and is instantly plunged into their bitter war. To gain the freedom he desires, Joe needs to turn to the less savory aspects of his class.

Engulfed by darkness, Joe can only hope he’ll be able to snuff out the light.

At This Point I'm Grading Dakota Against Himself

Book was enjoyable. On my third listen through looking for subtle things Not as good as the previous works. Feels like this novel was on a list and Dakota is looking forward to more gratifying parts of the grand story arch.

New skills and class mechanics are cool. Joe is consistent as a character. Dwarves and Elves have cultures that feel like a weird dream I would have. Wish the Dwarves were more grumpy and regal in nature and Elves were more snobbish and pomp. Agree both races would suck to humans.

The garbage dump was my favorite part. Joe's living in the now and embracing the suck are great in these books. The cat feels like a nod to another great series that is out. The GodDamned Cat!

Enjoyed the work. Didn't enjoy it a fraction as much as the Jackson side quest or as much as Regicide. Looking forward to the slow reintroduction of known crowd favorite characters and the enhanced use of weird puns and pop culture references.

In the genre, I'd rather not read any other author though.

I Love This Series BUT!

This Review Contains Spoilers...

I can't remember much about what happened in the last book. But in this book, it irritates me that everything the MC worked so hard to collect(in the last book) so he could take it with him into the next "Zone" was reduced to junk only minutes after he arrives. then straight off the bat, he loses about 3-5 levels due to his "Cheating" to get into the Zone.

He is weak compared to Everyone else in the new Zone, ( because of his "Cheating") then he works extremely hard only to gain (in my opinion) a few and insignificant Upgrades to his skills and a (maybe in time) awesome new Exotic weapon build specifically for his class.

He works extremely hard and it starts to look like he would finally get some EXP and get back up to level 23+ only for him to get about 3000 EXP for exposing a Major Secret that could destroy the Faction he joined, only then for him to then die a half-hour later and lose 30.000 EXP. Also when the MC is finished with his last quest in the book he gets a HUGE amount of resources from the dead enemy general only for him to be Forced to spend ALL of it 5 minutes later to revive all the dead Allies that died helping him. because all the remaining allied generals ran(leaving him in charge) so they didn't have to pay for it

I love this series. I just find that lately whenever the MC gets a break and does something incredible and gets a huge/big reward he turns around and something negative/bad comes up right after, leaving him worse than he was before.

Even when he has to learn about his new class "reductionist" he has to spend it. I think it was about 8000+ Reputation points with his god/deity just to know the basics about his class. He does however get something awesome at the end of the book that might just make up for all of the above and I can't wait to see what he does with it and how his Guild will reach when they reach him

Even though this Review is 95% negative I still love this series, and I'm still going to buy the next book in the series. and Follow Joe on his Adventures

Love this series!

This is by far my favorite Dakota Krout series. From it's wacky humor to it's quirky characters, to it's overarching plot lines. Luke Daniels does a great job of narrating this. While it took getting used to with the switch from Vikas I feel this is a worthy switch. I own every book and every audible version of this series, and I'll keep buying them all!

Wow another crazy adventure with Joe. I really like the mentor character in this story but I am wondering how much impact he will have through the series. Can’t wait till the next one.
